You can find edamame in the freezer section of most grocery stores. They are often sold either in their pods or shelled.

These beans are in season from June to September, but are often hard to find fresh. Frozen edamame are much easier to find and work well in many recipes.

Ingredients for this flavor packed edamame recipe:

  • Salt. Used to add flavor to your water. Don’t skip out on this one.
  • Shoyu. This Japanese style soy sauce packs a umami flavor punch.
  • Mirin. Mirin is a Japanese rice wine condiment that has less alcohol and more sugar than sake. If you don’t have mirin you can use sake or rice wine.
  • Sesame oil. This oil is very flavorful. A little goes a long way.
  • Granulated sugar. You can totally use brown sugar or a sugar alternative here as well.
  • Garlic. Getting a garlic press will be well worth your investment. Biting down on a large chunk of garlic is no fun.
  • Edamame. Frozen unshelled edamame works well here. If you can find them fresh you can totally use it here as well.
